Galileo Masters 2009

Our proposal "Freighter Berthing for the Future" has been awarded within the Galileo Masters 2009 contest two awards. Galileo Masters is organized by the Applications Center Oberpfaffenhofen Anwendungszentrum GMBH and the Conferences and Trade Management Center SYSTEMS in partnership with the German Space Agency (DLR) and the European Space Agency (ESA).

First Place - Prize Galileo Masters - Gipuzkoa

This prize is organized by the Gipuzkoa local government (Diputación de Gipuzkoa) with the Industry Department of the Basque Government (SPRI), BIC Gipuzkoa Berrilan, Euskadi+innova, Enpresa Digitala and Galileo Masters.

Second Place - Special Topic Prize by the German Space Agency (DLR)

The Applications Center Oberpfaffenhofen Anwendungszentrum GMBH organizes annually the Galileo Masters contest in search of innovative and promising ideas for commercial use of the European Galileo satellite network and the GNSS positioning system (Global Navigation Satellite Systems).

DLR, promoter of the Galileo Masters awards, recognizes through the special topic prize the proposals that best satisfy the following criteria: Innovation, relevance of the navigation system (GNSS), benefits of the idea, technical viability and business opportunity.

The idea

Automatic cargo ship berthing offers precise positioning and physical characteristics of the incoming ships and, therefore optimizes port operations.

This tool will benefit port operators and traders raising safety margins and improving efficiency in the tasks to be performed.

The development of this application will have a direct impact not only on merchant activities, but also in the industrial issue of its area of influence.
